In 2008, a group of like-minded career and technical education individuals (technical
college Tech Prep coordinators and representatives from the Wisconsin Technical
College System, local K-12 districts and the Department of Public Instruction) convened
to discuss how to build momentum for a statewide Career Pathways initiative. Consensus
was reached that an organized, consistent and user-friendly Web-based resource was
vital to assist educators in meeting the challenges of growing and maintaining a
skilled workforce to support the economic development of our state.
Over the next six months, career pathway discussions continued, and by fall 2008
the Wisconsin Career Pathways Website project was supported by a Carl Perkins WTCS
reserve grant. A cross-functional interagency team, consisting of representatives
from multiple agencies and educational organizations, was
formed to plan for the development of a Web-based Career Pathways resource.
In 2009, the project team continued to work on building the website by forming four
implementation teams. Each team reviewed team objectives, established goals and
developed next steps. The teams include Data Source Team, Web Development Team,
Content Team and Design Team.
In July of 2010, the Web site was launched.
